This short piece was forwarded to me by a dear friend, and it caused me to pause and reflect on one simple word that stood out above everything else: Remember.
Here is the message the unknown author wrote:
Take a moment to remember how many times God has already been faithful. There were prayers He answered, doors He opened, and seasons He carried you through that once seemed impossible.
Don’t let today’s uncertainty make you forget yesterday’s miracles. The same God who has guided you this far is still working in your life even when you can’t see everything He is doing.
Your story isn’t finished. Keep looking ahead with hope, because God is not done. There are still prayers to answer, blessings to receive, and his chapters. Of His faithfulness that you haven’t experienced yet. God reminds you today. “Look back and thank me for everything I’ve done for you. Look ahead and trust me because I am not done blessing you.”
After reflecting on this message, I was reminded that Scripture continually calls us to remember God’s faithfulness. Miracles are the evidence, but His unchanging character is the foundation of our confidence. Consider just a few examples:
- Lamentations 3:21–23 — remembering God’s faithfulness gives hope.
- Psalm 77:11–12 — “I will remember the works of the LORD.”
- Joshua 4 — memorial stones so Israel would remember what God had done.
- Hebrews 10:23 — “He who promised is faithful.”
- Philippians 1:6 — God will complete the work He began.
The message I took away from this short devotional is simply this: Don’t let today’s uncertainty make you forget yesterday’s faithfulness. The God who carried you through every impossible season has not changed. He is the same today as He was then, and He will be faithful tomorrow because faithfulness is not merely something He does—it is who He is.
That truth runs throughout Scripture—from the Exodus, to the memorial stones beside the Jordan, to David remembering God’s past deliverance, and finally to Paul’s confidence that “He who began a good work in you will bring it to completion.”
“In today’s uncertain world we have so many promises from God to stand firmly upon:
- Lamentations 3:21–23 – “This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope… Great is Your faithfulness.”
- Psalm 77:11–12 – “I will remember the deeds of the Lord… I will meditate on all Your works.”
- Deuteronomy 7:9 – God is faithful and keeps His covenant.
- Hebrews 10:23 – “He who promised is faithful.”
The challenge is not simply to remember God’s promises, but to remember the One who made them. Every promise rests upon the unchanging character of the God who stands behind it. When uncertainty comes—and it surely will—we need to look back and remember His faithfulness. Then look ahead with confidence, knowing that the God who has never failed you never will.
