Obedience

It is not what we do that matters, but what a sovereign God chooses to do through us. God doesn’t want our success; He wants us. He doesn’t demand our achievements; He demands our obedience. Charles Colson

Matthew 4:4 But Jesus told him, “No! For the Scriptures tell us that bread won’t feed men’s souls: obedience to every word of God is what we need.”

Every time Satan tempted Jesus in the wilderness His response was always immediate and by the Word of God. Jesus quoted the Old Testament verse in which the people of Israel were admonished to do the same thing:

Deut 8:3 And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the LORD doth man live.

Jesus was being tempted in the midst of suffering and He chose to be obedient to the Word. That, in a nutshell, is the secret ingredient of a successful Walk With God. Taking all that we have learned and applying it in a submitted lifestyle. Putting our hands of faith to the plow of obedience just like Jesus. As James so eloquently put the secret to giving life to our Walk: Be ye doers of the Word, and not hearers only.
