God Is Able… Are We?

297 - More Than AbleJust a short thought to consider. God’s Word tells us clearly and plainly that He is more than able to “keep us.” Consider the words of Jude as just one example:

Jude 24 Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy

God has given us His promise to never leave us nor forsake us (Heb 13:5), sealed with Jesus’ blood on the cross. And we know that He has sworn His promise with the highest oath… His (Heb 6:16-18). But the question before us is are we able to hold up our end? Once again the answer is an unwavering yes! We are more than conquerors (Rom 8:37), we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us (Phil 4:13), and we could fill the page with His confirmation of the fact that “we are able.” But just because He says we are doesn’t mean that we are keeping up our end.

There is a spiritual foundation to our being “able” to walk out our life with Him here on earth. And that foundation is being challenged every minute of every day, day in and day out. And Jude told us that Jesus is there to keep us from falling every one of those 1,440 minutes. But our not falling also depends on us.

Jude 20-21 But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost, 21 Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.

How many of those 1,440 minutes find us communicating with the One who has made us such an awesome promise? Are we focused on “building up our faith?” It is only through committing to spend time with Him through His Spirit that we are able to “remain in His love,” reminding our selves that it is through His mercy that we have His promise that He will “joyfully” present us faultless before the Father. And that very same mercy is there for us 1,440 times every day, forgiving us and setting us back on track when we stumble… He never lets us fall.

We need to remind ourselves the moment we wake that because He is able, we need to build up our faith in His promise and keep ourselves in His love… looking ahead to His promise of eternal life and standing on His mercy. God is able and He has enabled us to remain in His love by the power of His Spirit and our obedience to His Word.

Yes… He is more than able to carry us through our trials and tribulations and He has given to us the greatest enabler in the universe, but we must be committed…

2 Tim 1:12-14 12 For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day. 13 Hold fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard of me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus. 14 That good thing which was committed unto thee keep by the Holy Ghost which dwelleth in us.
