One morning last week as I was enjoying my coffee and time with the Lord I was watching the sun come up, and as it rose higher a voice down inside said, “See.” And I immediately got the message. We live in a world that at times seems to be spiritually dead. Even a large part of the church is walking around without a clue as to what the Lord is doing. Shame on the bride of Christ if we allow that to happen to us.
As I watched, throughout the field there were little flashes of light as the sun reflected off of the frozen moisture on some of the dead stems. First a flash here and then over there. Not many, but enough that it caught my attention. And then, after about ten minutes it all stopped as the sun rose higher and the temperature began to rise.
Here is what went through my mind as I watched.
Jesus’ bride is sprinkled throughout this spiritually dead world and in His light we have a brief time to shine into the deadness that surrounds us… right where we are. We don’t have to think about how we can take the message of the Gospel far and wide because we have been placed exactly where we are needed; fully equipped and empowered. All we have to do is be obedient to the leading of the Spirit and let His light be reflected in us right where we are.
The other thing that hit home was the incredibly brief time we have. Think about that from God’s perspective. He has placed us here for a purpose and a time, and He controls both. But in the larger context there will come a time when the “Son” comes over the horizon and His light will overshadow all the others.
Yes, I realize this is not some new revelation, it’s just God’s way of reminding me (us) that our light matters and there is not a lot of time left for it to shine. This world is “dry” but thanks to His sacrifice and our obedience it’s “not dead yet.” So let’s all make sure that our light shines brightly in the corner in which it has been placed… after all… It is our reasonable service.
