Moral Conviction

Matt 15:28 Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour.

Faith in the Greek is the word pistis, which means belief; a moral conviction of the truthfulness of God. Jesus honored the woman’s prayer because “exceedingly great” was her faith in the truthfulness of God’s word.

I have always pictured faith as the furnace in the basement that responds to the temperature we dial on the thermostat; our hope. It is the rock-face of our Christianity, but so often we get wrapped up in the struggles and trials of this world that we lose sight of just how powerful our belief system is and we let the “fire” in our furnace go out, which is compounded by a lack of spending time in the Word of God.

As we study the Word, we will find the Lord speaking directly to us about where we are in developing our faith and what we need to do to go deeper. As the bride of Christ, it is incumbent upon each one of us to not only know the ground we stand on, we need to firmly stand on it moment-by-moment. Faith is the cornerstone upon which Christ built His church, and it is the key to the advancement of His Kingdom. Without a strong faith we are potential pawns in the hands of doubt … right were the enemy wants us to be.

The Lord reminded me recently that we never finish laying our foundation; it is an ongoing project. I thought about that as I have always believed that when my foundation was laid, I would then begin building up from there. Not so. The Holy Spirit is the One who builds on our foundation, brick by brick. But in the process, He will reveal to us the cracks in our foundation that need to be attended to. And the key to ensuring a solid foundation is our faith, which is developed one day at a time, one step at a time for our entire life here on earth.

Just remember, our thermostat of “hope” will only deliver when the furnace of “faith” is engaged. We need to grab hold of and understand the faith that God has given us … It is the lifeblood of our Christian Walk.
